In Brene' Brown's book The Gifts of Imperfection, she offers 10 guideposts for cultivating wholehearted living. Each of these guideposts suggests letting go of something and how this allows for the cultivation of a gift. And, in alignment with our most recent amazing Full Moon in Aries on October 1-2, this time after the full moon is a wonderful time for release.

The Gifts of Imperfections ten guideposts:

  1. Letting go of what people think ~  cultivating authenticity.
  2. Letting go of perfectionism ~  self-compassion.
  3. Letting go of numbing and powerlessness ~ cultivating a resilient...

Blooming Worth Through Healing Shame

This week we explored the theme of Blooming WORTH through healing SHAME in our daily sessions. Bloom Pause is a community offering that meets remotely using Zoom. Each week we explore a new theme through discussion, sharing, meditation, and practices to improve daily life. If you'd like to join Bloom Pause, sign up here.

As Brene' Brown writes in her book Gifts of Imperfection:

“If we want to live and love with our whole hearts, and if we want to engage with the world from a place of worthiness, we have to talk about the things that get in the way – especially shame, fear, and vulnerability.”

Shame is basically the fear of being unlovable on a core level. It fuels feelings of unworthiness and a hopeless and pessimistic mindset.

3 things that are true about shame:

We all have it.

We’re all uncomfortable talking about it.

The less we talk about it, the more it grows.

Shame needs 3...

Each week we explore a new theme through discussion, sharing, meditation, and practices to improve daily life. If you'd like to join Bloom Pause, please email [email protected].

For exploring the theme of Radical Acceptance, we highly recommend Tara Brach's book, Radical Acceptance: Embracing your Life with the Heart of a Buddha. In it, she writes, "Much of our driven pace and habitual controlling in daily life does not serve to survive, and certainly not thriving. It arises from a free-floating anxiety about something being wrong or not enough... Through the sacred art of pausing, we develop the capacity to stop hiding, to stop running away from our experience. We begin to trust in our natural intelligence, in our naturally wise heart, in our capacity to be open to whatever arises. Like...

During this experience of COVID 19, the entire world has been called to pause. We have been stopped in our tracks because of this virus. We have been called to look at ourselves personally and collectively, at our society and our systems of power on a profound level. Personal and collective shadow has been exposed and continues to be revealed. Bloom! emerged during this time and in response to the felt call for blooming a new way of being and era.

Tara Brach has a chapter in her book Radical Acceptance: Embracing your Life with the Heart of a Buddha called The Sacred Pause. In it, she writes, "Much of our driven pace and habitual...

Acceptance to Heal Shame

This week we explored the theme of Blooming Acceptance to Heal Shame in our daily sessions. Bloom Pause is a community offering that meets remotely using Zoom. Each week we explore a new theme through discussion, sharing, meditation, and practices to improve daily life. If you'd like to join Bloom Pause, please email [email protected].

"Shame is about fear, blame, and disconnection. The story is about worthiness and embracing the imperfections that bring us courage, compassion, and connection. If we want to live fully, without the constant fear of not being enough, we have to own our story. We also have to respond to shame in a way that doesn't exacerbate our shame." Brene' Brown from her book, The Gifts of Imperfection.

People tend to respond to shame being triggered in 4 primary ways that are all informed by the nervous system:

1. Freeze: this is a shutdown, submission, collapse, going numb, or...

Hope

Each week we explore a new theme through discussion, sharing, meditation, and practices to improve daily life. If you'd like to join Bloom Pause, sign up here.

This week we explored how hope happens drawing from the work of Brene Brown in her book, The Gifts of Imperfection. She writes the following, "I always thought of hope as an emotion - like a warm feeling of optimism ... I was wrong... hope is not an emotion; it's a way of thinking or a cognitive process. Emotions play a supporting role, but it is really a thought process made up of ... goals, pathways, and agency."

She goes on to explain, in very simple terms, hope happens when there are 3 things:

  • we have the ability to set realistic goals,
  • we are able to stay flexible and develop alternative routes,
  • we believe in ourselves...

One of our dear Bloomers, Eric Carpine shared his inspiring manifesto for practicing optimism in his life. He calls it his Optimist's Manifesto. With his permission, we shared it to inspire our Bloom Conversation and Meditation sessions:

We'd like to offer discernment between hope and optimism drawing from the research of Brene' Brown. Here are words from Brene Brown's book, The Gifts of Imperfection:

"I always thought of hope as an emotion - like a warm feeling of optimism ... I was wrong... hope is not an emotion; it's a way of thinking or a cognitive process. Emotions play...

Embrace My Story

This week we explored the theme of Honoring and Embracing our Stories in our daily sessions. Bloom Pause is a community offering that meets remotely using Zoom. Each week we explore a new theme through discussion, sharing, meditation, and practices to improve daily life. If you'd like to join Bloom Pause, sign up here.

In our discussions of the theme of story, we, in particular, explored the value of the shadow side of our story and ultimately the value of awakening from our story. In fact, in truth, if we did not have a story, we would not have anything to awaken from. Therefore, appreciating our story for this purpose is critical.

Consider what story you have been telling yourself about who you have been and what aspects of this story have blocked brilliance and you from blooming and moving forward in your life.

Some highlights from what participants in this weeks' sessions shared:

  • We need to own and accept our story - the good,...
